From Our House To Your House

Memories

Although our home is not in a part of the country where it snows now, I grew up in the northern part of the USA. I still dream of those beautiful "first snow falls" during the holiday season. The lightly falling snow inspires the holiday spirit. Remembering my childhood days of catching snowflakes on my tongue and making snow angels brings about nostalgia. The crackling of the fire on a cold winter's night not only warmed cold toes, but warmed my heart. Sipping hot chocolate after a night of caroling on Christmas Eve...aaahhh I can almost taste the marshmallows now. Memories are a wonderful thing to have.

During the Christmas holidays these days, we go to the beach. We wear shorts and sandals instead of parkas and boots. We sip iced tea instead of hot chocolate. We turn on the A/C instead of lighting the fire. But...we will forever have our memories.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that ST. NICHOLAS soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar-plums danced in their head. And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, had just settled down for a long winter's nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow gave the luster of mid-day to objects below. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, and he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name.

"Now, DASHER! now, DANCER! now, PRANCER and VIXEN! On, COMET! on CUPID! on, DONDER and BLITZEN! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof, the prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my hand, and was turning around, down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, and the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a broad face and a little round belly, that shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself; A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, and filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk, and laying his finger aside of his nose, and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, and away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

The Christmas season is not just a time for decorating the tree, opening gifts, baking cookies, and visiting with family and friends. It is a special time of the year to celebrate Jesus' birthday. Let us not forget...

The True Meaning Of Christmas

The

And it came to pass in those days, a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered, everyone in the city of his birth. And Joseph went from Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.

And while they were there, the day came for her to be delivered. She brought forth a Son, and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, for there was no room for them in the inn.

And so began the life of One who changed everything about earth from that moment forward. Of no other, has so much been written, told, sung, drawn, argued, or believed. While some claim He was merely a prophet or a great man, others claim He didn't even exist. But exist He did. He came as promised. He promised to come again. That, is our Great Hope.

Christmas Cards

I have a list of folks I know all written in a book, and every year at Christmas I go and take a look.
That is when I realize that these names are a part, not of the book they're written in, but of my very heart.
For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime, and in that meeting they've become the rhythm in each rhyme.
While it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim,
I really feel that I'm composed of each remembered name.
While you may not be aware of any special link, just meeting you has changed my life, and a lot more than you think.
For once I've met someone, the years cannot erase the memory of a pleasant word or a friendly face.
So never think my Christmas cards are just a mere routine, of names on a Christmas list, forgotten in between.
For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you, it's because you are on the list of folks I am indebted to.
For I am the total of the many folks I have met, and you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget.
Whether I have known you for many years or a few,
in some way you have been a part in shaping things I do.
Every year when Christmas comes, I realize anew, the best gift life can offer is meeting folks like you.
May the spirit of Christmas that forever endures, leave the richest blessings in the years of you and yours.
