Joseph & Friends
![]()

| Woof, Woof
everyone, My name is Joseph (that's what my Mom calls me), but everyone else just calls me Joey, or Joe, or...well, let's leave it at that, ok? Pardon me if I look a bit pooped. I've just had a Calgon bath and it plum wore me out! So, while I just lie here and rest up a bit, go ahead and scroll on down and visit with my friends. I'll catch up with you in a bit. I have a touch of arthritis though, so it might take me awhile. I'll be there though...no worries. The ducks requested to be first to greet new visitors, so go on and say "Hi" to Daddy, Gramps, and little Luci. |
The Ducks

| My Florida
"backyard" residents. Daddy Duck (top left), Old Gramps
(top center), and Luci Girl (bottom right). They come to the door
twice a day to be fed. They wait in the driveway for someone
to come home to feed them. If Mom and Dad aren't fast enough with
their dinner, they stand at the pool door and peek in and quack. These
friendly ducks are "Muskovy" ducks.
What are Muscovy Ducks you ask? Muscovy Ducks are native to Central and
South America and range naturally as far north as the Rio Grande Valley
in Texas. Domesticated Muscovies are everywhere these days, not to solve
any environmental crisis, but just because land owners like them around.
Their cross-breeding produces black birds, white birds, and all black
and white variations in between. |
Lake Louise

| Central Florida was in a 3-4 year drought. The lake in our backyard had dropped about 8-10 feet. It looked like we had our own beach. I liked that personally. I had a lot more places to bury my bones, and sometimes Mom gave me something I didn't like to eat and, please don't tell Mom what I did with it. |

| Central Florida has since recuperated from its drought and, as you can see...we are now above capacity!!! Those sticks floating out beyond the willow tree...that's the top railing of the dock! (see previous photo) Now I've lost my special bone burial ground. *sniff *sniff |
Charlotte
(the Muskovy)

| Look at Charlotte, taking a dip in the pool! She stayed for 2 days. I think she liked the cool drinks while floating in the lounge chair the best. |
Mama Duck
(The Mallard)
(aka) Marilyn (cuz she looks like Marilyn Monroe, of course)

|
Marilyn is quite a lady. She's a real sweetheart. When she quacks to come in, she wants to take a stroll by the pool before she nibbles on some fresh bread. If you don't give it to her when she's ready, she'll poke you in the leg. She thinks she is one sexy duck and wants to strut her stuff. She knows that Gramps Duck likes to watch the girls go by. |
The Aflack Ducks

| My neighbor, Bill, bought some duck eggs one day. He took very good care of them. Then all of a sudden...these 6 popped out. Now they roam the backyards saying "Aflack" all day long. I guess they're hoping for a talent agency to hear them and sign them up for commercial work. I'll be the last one to tell them that they are too late. One of the Muskovys has serious designs on one of the Aflacks, so I guess there will be little umm er uh Musklacks???? running around soon. |
The Beautiful Snowy Egret

| This beautiful Egret is getting a birds eye view of the lake, biding his time before the dinner crowd comes flying in, so he can see what's jumping or swimming out there. Or... he could be simply waiting for a ride somewhere. What do you think? |
The Sand Hill Cranes

| These tall beautiful birds roam around backyards, the streets, and just about anywhere they please. They nonchalantly cross the road without regard to the traffic...everyone stops to let them cross over. I think we need "Sand Hill Crane Crossing" signs. |
|
I think I've shown you most of my friends in the outside world. I couldn't get the turtles to stay long enough for a picture taking session. All except this one turtle (he's a Slider Turtle)...who was trying to cross the road, but traffic was going way too fast. My babysitter, Clare, picked him up and asked me if I would let him swim in my lake. So, here is my dad letting Mr. Pokey go in the lake. Mr. Pokey
The fish want nothing to do with cameras, and the raccoons, foxes, armadillos, and ´possums, only come out at night while I'm snoozing, so it's difficult to snap their pictures. I won't show you any pictures of the alligators or the Water Moccasins. They're not nice friends. Please stop and say hello to my "inside" friends on the next page. They're waiting to say hello to you. |
